Cocoy Laurel's three paintings of Nora Aunor?
Just like yours truly, Filipino actor, recording artist and painter Mr. Victor "Cocoy" Laurel who sadly passed away June 14, 2025 have also been inspired to paint Nora Aunor as his muse. How many times did he painted Nora Aunor?
I am intrigued coz I am a fan of other painters work especially if it is Nora Aunor as muse in a painting. As far as I am aware, Cocoy Laurel might have painted Nora Aunor three times since 1970 till his passing in 2025?
As for me, I have three series of paintings with Nora Aunor as muse, one of which is titled Filipinism, La Aunor, Woman (clcik here for some info) This series have been exhibited in London and also have been featured in several video interview. TV5 featured this series in their online page after Nora Aunor's passing Click here to see my Nora Aunor as painting muse as featured by news5.
Some of the paintings in this series have recently been a finalist in two art competition respectively, Clcik here for more info on one of my Nora Aunor painting that have become a finalist in an art competition in April 2025.
Another painting from the same series is recently on online art exhibit as finalist in another art competition with Nora Aunor as muse. Click here to see my artwork of Nora Aunor as finalist in an art competition.
Back to Cocoy Laurel's painting of Nora Aunor. If he have painted Nora Aunor three times over several decades, I am intrigued to see all three in one painting exhibit. I do believe he have painted Nora three times per existing evidence but maybe there are more painting of Nora Aunor by Cocoy Laurel which is hidden somewhere? Perhaps unfinished? I would love to see those paintings in exhibit.
I do have questions on how many times did Cocoy Painted Ms. Nora Aunor, as far as I being part of the public, I am aware that so far there are three images that were images of Cocoy's painting of Nora Aunor?
See collage below of the three paintings by Cocoy Laurel of Nora Aunor as muse.
Okay, so here is where it is unclear to me and here are my questions.
The image in black and white in the collage above that I made is a photo I took from a film starring Nora Aunor and Cocoy Laurel in "Lollipops and Roses" wherein Cocoy's character is that of a painter, in one scene in the movie - it appears to show Cocoy painting and when the camera focused on the canvas, it shows a portrait of Nora Aunor which is in the collage of this blog. The film portrays it as a painting. Is it really a painting? Is it of Cocoy Laurel? Where is it now? IF it is a painting then I would surmise that it is the very first painting of Cocoy Laurel of Nora Aunor as muse? This is truly intriguing and exciting.
According to this PEP news report, Cocoy's painting of Nora in 1970 used to hang on Nora's house at the time, this is perhaps the photo in black and white in the collage above? Click here for the PEP lifestyle report which features Cocoy Laurel and his Nora Aunor painting.
Fast forward to the painting of Cocoy Laurel of Nora Aunor in a canvass as portrait with flowers, my understanding is that this painting exist? And this painting have some damaged on the face of Nora Aunor? Where is it now? If this exist then this will be the second painting of Cocoy Laurel of Nora Aunor?
And the third painting that exist of Nora Aunor is that one which Cocoy Laurel gave to Lotlot De Leon during the wake of Nora and is featured in this news article by Malaya.com
Or is this third painting actually the second painting that is damaged? the same second painting which perhaps Cocoy Laurel painted over and removed the flowers and fixed the face since it is mentioned that the second painting have some damaged on it? I hope not, I hope that the first and second painting are still somewhere out there and can be exhibited.
Perhaps someone out there knows the answer to the questions above?
