Bayanihan and Love: A Documentary Born from God's Intervention.

Bayanihan and Love: A Documentary Born from God's Intervention.

The journey to honoring two Philippine entertainment icons, Nora Aunor and Cocoy Laurel, was never meant to be easy, but it was always destined to be passionate. What started as a chance meeting on October 4, 2025, at a Nora-Cocoy event at the Libingan ng mga Bayani and the Sanctuario Columbarium of Cocoy Laurel, has transformed into a profound labor of love.
"We only met last Oct 4, 2025 in a certain Nora-Cocoy event... We decided to put our resources and creativity together for this Nora-Cocoy documentary. In spite of our diverse background, we became friends along the way," says Connie Po, one of the lead organizers.
Struggles and Divine Intervention
The road to producing this documentary was filled with stress and the inevitable struggles of coordinating such a massive, emotionally charged project. There were moments of misunderstanding and high pressure, yet the team pushed forward, driven by their deep admiration for the "Superstar" and her leading man the great painter Victor "Cocoy" Laurel.
"We call it God's Intervention," says Connie Po. The project was truly born out of a shared love for Nora Aunor and Cocoy Laurel, ensuring their legacy is preserved for future generations.
The Power of Bayanihan
This endeavor is a true showcase of Bayanihan—a collective community effort where hearts, resources, and creativity united. The Philippines Core Group—comprised of devoted organizers—came together to ensure that this story was properly documented for posterity.
The tireless team, known as the Philippines Core Group, consists of:
  • Connie L. Po
  • Pagasa P. Malinao
  • Vilma C. Culaway
  • Marly O. Valino
  • Shirley V. Tocino
  • Beth P. Magsino
  • Ethel Y. Sabayan
  • Celia A. Maloles
  • Gwendolyn C. Legayada
  • Joyce S. Viray
The Joy of Reality
Despite the hurdles faced along the way, the joy of making this documentary a reality is unmatched. Seeing the project come to life serves as a beautiful reminder that when people unite for a common cause, even the most stressful journeys end in triumph.
Addendum: Supporting the Arts
Beyond their work on this documentary, the members of the Philippines Core Group are also the driving force behind the campaign for Francis Tanseco. They have been instrumental in supporting his quest to win "The People's Artist" online competition—a prestigious global search currently being promoted by Hollywood actor Johnny Depp. Their dedication continues to uplift Filipino talent on the world stage.
Their support is rooted in a shared vision for Filipino artistry, as reflected in their collective efforts:
  • "We believe in a sustainable future underpinned by our passion for excellence and the power of teamwork," notes the spirit of the group's leadership.
  • The team views their support for Francis Tanseco as an extension of their mission to honor Filipino talent, much like their dedication to the Nora-Cocoy legacy.
  • "In times of uncertainty, we find strength in our faith and in the support of one another," says the group, highlighting the spiritual foundation of their advocacy.
Their dedication continues to uplift Filipino talent on the world stage, proving that the spirit of Bayanihan knows no borders.

The group is currently championing several of Tanseco's most iconic works featuring his muse, Nora Aunor, including: (1)
  • "The Sunset": A poignant oil painting of Nora Aunor often highlighted alongside works by Cocoy Laurel himself.
  • "Filipinism, La Aunor, Woman": A celebrated series that was recently selected as a finalist in international competitions.
  • "Nora's Eyes": A focused study capturing the expressive "golden eyes" of the Superstar. [1, 2, 3]
Their dedication ensures that Filipino artistry is recognized and celebrated on the world stage. [1]
