 Marlon "Popoy" Gaviola Bollozos is a versatile Filipino artist who achieved fame as a painter being known as the "Sweet Painter ".

1. Career

Marlon Gaviola Bollozos or ‘Popoy’ (also known as ‘Marloves’) as his moniker works as security officer at MGM hotel and casino in Las Vegas for thirteen (13) years.

2. Fine Arts Career

Oro Art Guild Inc.

In 1995, Mr. Bollozos joined and co-founded the art group in Cagayan De Oro City in the Philippines called the Oro Art Guild Inc and has since been active with creating artwork wherever he is and joining group exhibitions. 

The same art group that catapulted his team to hosting their first national convention for all artist in the Philippines. The group were able to get recognition and fund from the NCCA or the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

Marlon Gaviola Bollozos Marlon is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA and is popularly known as the "Sweet Painter" for incorporating sweets and lollipops in his previous series of painting both in oil and acrylic.

He recently had an exhibit with other artist this 2025.

Group Art Exhibit.

Mr. Bollozos, 48, has held several painting exhibition since 2012 to 2018. First in Canada and at the Art District Avenue of Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. “I use mix media, acrylic on canvas and oil on canvas” are some of the medium that he has worked on.

He said he is planning to do another exhibit as soon as the pandemic is over.

“I have made several artwork which touches on the pandemic as my subject” said Popoy or Marloves.

His work during the pandemic, including the one in the photo below titled “Pandemic Circus” is ready to be shown when galleries opens again in the future. To date, he has at least ten art work and sketches which all touches on the pandemic. “Mainly, the ones I’ve finished during this lockdown are sketches but I also made some paintings."

Surrealist and Modernist Style:
His work is characterized by an abstract modernist and expressionist style, often featuring subjects like nature, landscapes and juxtaposing a real lollipop to the canvas.

“The curator during my exhibit at the ‘Corner Gallery’ of Art District downtown of Las Vegas in 2018 nicknamed me ‘Sweet Painter because I incorporated lollipops into my work.” He is the only painter in the world who uses lollipop incorporated into his artwork hence he was branded as the “SWEET” art/artist.

At another exhibition, Mr. Bollozos recalls “I remember having sold all my paintings during the Filipino-American heritage gala night exhibit at the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas.”

“More on social surrealism” is ‘Sweet Painter’s favorite subject. These are the main theme of his exhibits in USA and Canada from the period 2012 to 2018 series of exhibitions at different venues.
