"Tomacruz" - produced by Nora Aunor - a tribute.
"Tomacruz..Sa Puso Ng Isang Anak" is a film produced by Nora Aunor starring John Rendez. The title to me looks poetic.
As the song goes...
"And she believes in me
I never know just what she see's in me."
Nora Aunor sees something in John Rendez which none of us mortals who were not there on their intimate moments weather it be physical or on a soul level.
None of us were there to know Nora's or Rendez's innermost thoughts. None of us were there to listen to their views however they maybe wrong or right or even perhaps perverted or untainted. None of us were there. Only Nora and John were there for each other. Not you and I, not even the children for children grows and starts there own lives which is a natural stage of our existence.
You see, Nora Aunor and John Rendez met post Nora Aunor "Superstar" days. And this is symbolic in a sense because Nora's TV show "Superstar" practically also highlights the stage in her career we may call her peak, her stage in life wherein she was young and still the unforgiving public sees as the most bankable stage.
From the moment "Superstar" aired in 1970 till its farewell broadcast on October 1. 1989 (the longest-running musical variety show on Philippine primetime television, airing for 22 years), Nora Aunor's career in terms of stage in life is what we call "prime stage of life". The 22 years of Nora Aunor hosting the show was her most active stage in life, she was very successful, full of health, her mental abilities was also at a peak. It was her time wherein she was most vital and energetic, perhaps even more creative than the post Superstar stage.
When the farewell episode was aired, she was 36 years old. You see, the 'prime stage of life' more or less ends at mid '30's. She was not yet old alright but for an industry that sees 30 years of age as old enough, especially for women actresses - that age marks the beginning of her ending in relation to entertainment industries expiration date when it comes to freshness, young and beautiful unwritten cannon . I am not saying that her star diminished - not at all - what am saying is that the entertainment industry is just unforgiving to ageing generally.
Why am I highlighting this? Because she met John Rendez when she was almost 40 years old, and John was just about 20 years of age. Where am I going with this? You probably guess. Let me shorten this for all of us - John and Nora stayed as friends and close friend at that for 34 years. The stage of Nora's life from middle adulthood to late adulthood. I guess if we cannot call this true love then perhaps some of you may agree that the story portrays that of a soul mate.
Let's fast forward to now, on May 26th will be 40th day since Nora Aunor died. In all of this stages except the brightest "Superstar" stage, John Rendez was there in her life. She was there not at her peak but at a stage going to twilight and he stayed with her till her last breath.
And as the song goes...
"But she has faith in meAnd so I go on trying faithfullyAnd who knows maybe on some special nightIf my song is rightI will find a wayFind a way"
That lyrics is applicable both ways, so we see - the ever grateful and faithful Nora Aunor perhaps wanted to leave us a legacy unconsciously when she produced John Rendez movie "Tomacruz". Nora Aunor only knows why but to me it is easy to see why. She simply believes in John like some of us would believe and support our own true friends if we have one. Nora Aunor was indeed very lucky to have John and John was also very lucky to have Nora.
The general public whose perception was engineered so easily to go and believe in a certain way obviously was shocked and unaccepting by this John-Nora friendship which is more a soul mate picture in my mind.
And so Nora Aunor produced a film starring John Rendez titled "Tomacruz". I believe this film is part of her legacy for it is not only for John Rendez but her advocacy from the very beginning to produce good films. After all she was only 21 years old when she first produced a movie, the youngest producer in Philippine history perhaps?
During her wake and eventually funeral, we saw so many famous celebrities and politicians who were there paying their last respect, perhaps we can really give her our last respect by helping make this movie which Nora Aunor produced be a success.
And we say we wanna give Nora Aunor a tribute? Of course we all have our own little way of giving her a tribute. But let me say this, and it is only my humble opinion, if we want really to give Nora Aunor a tribute, the best tribute we can give her is by supporting this movie which Nora Aunor herself produced - again this is just my humble opinion.
My question is...what happened to the movie? Where is it and when is it gonna be shown to the public?
Somebody out there knows the partial answer am sure.
Here is behind the scene from John Rendez YouTube channel.
And let me introduce you to a song I created, I wrote and produce as my own little tribute to Ms. Nora Aunor.
